Eudamidas I Eudamidas I (Greek: (unicode:Εὐδαμίδας), 330 – c. 300 BC) was a Spartan king of the Eurypontid line,〔Suida, (''epsilon'', 3400 )〕 son of Archidamus III and brother of Agis III, whom he succeeded. He married the wealthy Arachidamia, and she had two children, Archidamus IV and Agesistrata. There is evidence that Eudamidas I owned the half of his wife wealth in land.〔Plutarch, (''Agis'', 4.1 )〕〔Stephen Hodkinson, (1986), ‘Land Tenure and Inheritance in Classical Sparta’, ''The Classical Quarterly'', Vol. 36, (2), pp. 378-406〕 During his reign Sparta made peace.〔Pausanias, ( iii.10.5 )〕 Pausanias devotes more space to Agis II (427–400) and Agesilaus II (400–360) than to other kings, such as Agis III (338–330) and Eudamidas I, whose lives he passed by briefly, as the Eurypontid line ‘fades’.〔A. R. Meadows, (1995), ‘Pausanias and the Historiography of Classical Sparta’, ''The Classical Quarterly'', Vol. 45, (1), pp. 92-113〕 ==Notes==
